Chiropractic care is widely recognized as one of the safest treatment methods for several medical conditions, most importantly pain relief. It utilizes various chiropractic adjustments to relieve pressure on joints and restore the normal range of body motion. Our top chiropractors use completely non-invasive and natural chiropractic adjustments to treat back pain, neck pain, joint pain of the arms or legs, headaches, and other such complaints. Besides this, our chiropractic care is perfect for restoring spine alignment and other joints.

What is a chiropractic adjustment?

A Chiropractic Adjustment is an alternative therapy for relieving pressure on joints, muscles, and the spine to improve the spinal motion range. Chiropractic Adjustments are also used for the realignment of the spine or treat unusual joint placement or subluxation. While performing a Chiropractic Adjustment, the Chiropractor uses hands-on manipulation along with other alternative therapies to get the desired results.

An adjustment should be performed by a highly-skilled Chiropractor (Like Chiropractors at Metro Atlanta Injury & Wellness Center). One of the major purposes of Chiropractic Adjustments is to relieve pain so the patient can feel relaxed and be ready for further treatment and restore normal movement in the body. A typical Chiropractic Adjustment involves:

  • Joint Mobilization
  • Muscle Release
  • Muscle Stimulation
  • Nerve Stimulation
  • Spinal Realignment
  • Pressure Release on Joints
  • Therapeutic Exercises

Each type of Chiropractic adjustment has a specific procedure to get specific results. At Metro Atlanta Injury & Wellness Center, we perform a variety of Chiropractic Adjustments to help you get pain relief and normal range of body motion:

diversified chiropractic technique adjustment

back-adjustment

A Diversified Chiropractic Adjustment is a common chiropractic technique among experienced chiropractors that is often used to relieve tension in specific body areas. Diversified adjustment is also known as the Direct Thrust Technique as it involves the application of rapid thrusts to different parts of the spine by a Chiropractor's hands. Some diversified chiropractic adjustments use mobilization with impulse, while in most cases a high velocity, low amplitude method is used.

While performing diversified adjustment, the Chiropractor engages the restrictive barrier that involves the pulling instead of pushing against body structures. The Chiropractor positions the joint to engage the barrier more efficiently. The joints under the procedure show movement in flexion such as extension, translation, side bending, and rotating. After the joints are tested to diagnose the restrictions, rapid thrusts are applied to remove them.

The effectiveness and results of Diversified Chiropractic Adjustment has been based on the Chiropractor performing the therapy and the patient's initial pain condition.

Diversified Chiropractic Adjustment is Used for:

  • Spinal Realignment
  • “Cracking” or “Popping” the back
  • Pain Relief
  • Alleviation of Inflammation
  • Improved Range of Body Motion

thompson technique

Thompson Technique, which is also called a Drop-Table Technique, is a full-spine chiropractic adjustment. It involves the use of special treatment tables that work on drop mechanisms. These tables provide low-amplitude, high-velocity, and low-force adjustments to the spine. The Thompson technique table is equipped with platforms that are designed to drop under the effect of thrusts applied by the Chiropractor.

Thompson Technique is used to apply less forceful adjustments on the spine that offer stability and comfort for the patients. In the normal experience, the patient, after getting a Thompson adjustment, you may feel a warm sensation throughout the body that triggers calming effects and relaxation feelings from spinal manipulation.

Thompson Technique is used for:

  • Relieve Chronic Back Pain
  • Treat Spinal misalignment
  • Pediatric Chiropractic Adjustments
  • Correction of Neck Curvature

activator technique

The activator Technique is based on the use of a hand-held mechanical instrument, which is also called the Activator Adjusting Instrument. The Chiropractor performing Activator adjustment uses the Activator to apply a gentle impulsive force on the verbal segments of the spine to restore the motion of the targeted spinal vertebra or joint. The impulses that the Activator Adjusting instrument generates are low-force and low-amplitude. The device works fast, due to which the Chiropractic can perform this therapy more effectively. As the activator device produces pinpointed impulses only, it doesn't affect the rest of the spine and joints and keeps them safe from getting into compromised positions.

When a vertebral joint loses its normal alignment, it starts intruding into the space that is specific for blood flow and nerves, which can result in severe pain and numbness. The activator device produces gentle force to push the misaligned joint back to its original place and prevent further pain and injury. This makes spinal manipulation different compared to other techniques. When you're under the Activator adjustment, you just feel a light thumping that doesn't make you uncomfortable at all.

Activator Technique Used For:

  • Neck Pain
  • Back Pain
  • Chronic headaches
  • Injury Treatment in Senior Citizens

sacro-occipital technique (SOT Adjustment)

The SOT Technique is a chiropractic adjustment that is used for the restoration of the normal functional relationship between the head, pelvis, and the spine. The spine is a structure that covers and protects Our Central Nervous System, which is the "control center" for our bodies. There's a very close relationship between the Central Nervous System and the spine, including its surrounding structures, that makes SOT a very useful, effective, and healthy chiropractic technique for the body. Sacro-Occipital Technique is also called a more "light" or gentle chiropractic adjustment.

In the SOT technique, the pelvis is taken as the focal point of proper spinal alignment. Natural spinal alignment and the range of motion are essential for the integrity of the CNS (Central Nervous System). However, the pelvis is prone to strain, pressure, and tension as a result of the strong pull of gravity caused by intense physical activities. When the pelvis is strained, the stability and integrity of the CNS are compromised, and the effects are felt throughout the body in the form of the head, spine, and connective tissue distortions. SOT technique is performed to restore this stability to promote homeostasis in the body so optimal structures and functions can be restored.

SOT technique uses SOT "blocks," or wedges that are placed accurately under the pelvis. The chiropractor applies gentle pressure along with the patient's body weight to restore the normal spinal alignment and functions of the Central Nervous System. SOT technique is popular among chiropractors for its safe and consistent results that help make patients feel comfortable.
